You need to pay attention to space usage, CPU usage, and the cancellation requirement. If you want a *secondary* cloud backup and have a big volume of files (but none over 10 GB in size), IDrive may be a good choice for you. I can see how that conversation might suffer. They were asking for refunds and Technical Support was explaining the policy. They answered on the second ring on the weekend! Some people have complained that they weren't polite enough. I was amazed at Technical Support's responsiveness. But they do keep deleted files forever or until you remove them from your cloud backup. #IDRIVE THERE IS NO PERMISSION TO BACKUP THE FILE FOR FREE#There is a limit on the number of times you can do that for free per year.Īs for backing up file versions, IDrive keeps a maximum of 10 per file. And you can request that a restore drive be shipped to you at no charge. Those features are available, but that is not where they put their focus. IDrive does not receive good marks for restoring Exchange, MS SQL Server, or bare metal restore. Of greater concern are upload speeds that go from just fine to way too slow. But you do have to pay attention to your space usage. But, hey, what are cloud backups for? One thing is to protect you if something deletes your files! It is good that IDrive *does not* remove deleted files. Some customers thought they were within their space limit because they deleted files from their computers. IDrive never removes deleted files from their backup. The solution? Buy more space *before* using up what you have. Also, IDrive has a policy of charging much more money for GBs in excess of the purchased amount. The instructions could be more prominent, I'll admit. Search for "IDrive cancel account" and you get the instructions: "click your username in the upper right corner of the screen, select ‘Account’, and click the ‘Disable auto-renewal’ button." So with Idrive you don't call customer service, you don't chat, you don't send an email to cancel. Is it hard to cancel, no, but it is different. Is it unreasonable for a company with really low prices to have a no-refund policy after 30 days? No. You just need to read their policies and follow their instructions. They tend to fall into two main categories: (1) IDrive won't give me my money back, and (2) Upload performance is terrible or was fine and is now terrible. They are big, so more complaints are to be expected. On the flip side, IDrive has lots of customer complaints. IDrive is so alluring because (a) their price is really low, (b) they are big so they'll be around, (c) they have a very broad set of backup options, (d) they have a great control panel for managing multiple machines and/or customers, (e) pricing, did I mention pricing? When the sync eventually starts working, it operates at speeds so slow that it'll take about 6 more weeks, operating 24/7, for less than 400gb to upload. I go to bed and when I check the next morning nothing's changed. I've had innumerable conversations with customer service, at the conclusion of which they've assured me, "No, everything's fine now, it'll all sync no problem". They offer iDrive Express service, where you load your data onto a hard drive, but the postage charge for this - if you're in Europe, as I am - is $40+ ONE WAY, so we're looking at 80 bucks postage alone, and, based on the rubbish service I've received so far, it didn't seem wise to throw more money away. I've spent numerous hours reading their FAQ, watching videos, tweaking my computer parameters, etc and it's been massively frustrating and mostly a waste of time. Since then it's managed to upload approx 10,000 of my 90,000+ files. My experience with these guys has been pretty awful.
